Julius James (born July 9, 1984 in Maloney Gardens , Trinidad and Tobago ) is a football player on the position of a defender , who is mostly used in right defense, but also as a central defender .
Career
Club career
James began his career as an active soccer player with the soccer team at St. Anthony's College, which he left in 2003. From 2004 to 2007 he played on the University of Connecticut soccer team . In 2007 James was a candidate for the Hermann Trophy , which has been awarded annually since 1967 for the best college soccer player or for the best college soccer player. In addition, he was Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalist and team captain that same year . For the Huskies , the nickname of the university soccer team, he scored six goals in 63 games.
In 2006 he played a few games for the Westchester Flames in the USL Premier Development League .
In January 2008, James was the MLS club Toronto FC's first pick at the 2008 MLS SuperDraft . By his departure to Houston Dynamo on December 12, 2008, he completed 13 games for the Reds and scored one goal. His transfer to Houston Dynamo came about when Dwayne De Rosario moved from the Texans to Toronto FC in exchange for James. Overall, he was used for the club from Houston in four games and was briefly loaned to Minnesota Thunder in 2009 , in which he completed two games.
After this brief loan, James moved to DC United on August 14, 2009. Houston received another pick for this in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. On February 17, 2011, James was released from United.
The Columbus crew announced on February 28, 2011 that they had signed James. He made his debut a day later in the CONCACAF Champions League quarter-finals against Real Salt Lake .
After the 2012 season, Columbus Crew did not take the option to extend James' contract. He participated in the 2012 MLS Re-Entry Draft, but was not selected by any MLS team. In 2013 he moved to the Carolina RailHawks in the North American Soccer League . After the 2013 season, he moved within the league to the San Antonio Scorpions , where he acted as a regular and before the start of the 2016 game year went to league rivals Fort Lauderdale Strikers . On December 18, 2015, he received the National B license as a football coach from the United States Soccer Federation .
International
Overall, James came from 2008 to 2011 on a proven sixteen international appearances for the national team from Trinidad and Tobago . He has also played for the U-17 team in Trinidad and Tobago, where he was used during the U-17 World Cup in 2001 in his home country. He scored an own goal in the 6-1 defeat in the group stage against the Brazilian U-17 selection. He made his debut with the national team of Trinidad and Tobago on September 3, 2008 in the game against Guyana .
