Julius Knappe von Knappstaedt (born March 2, 1809 in Ostrowine , † September 21, 1872 in Breslau ) was a royal Prussian major general and most recently the commander of the 3rd Guards Regiment on foot .

His parents were Major General August Knappe von Knappstädt (* February 6, 1775; † June 29, 1852) and his wife Charlotte Dorothea von Mützschefall (1776-1851). His brother Otto (1815-1906) became general of the infantry .

Life

On June 21, 1827, he joined the 2nd Infantry Regiment as a musketeer . There he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich on November 15, 1828 and assigned as a surplus lieutenant on August 15, 1830 and assigned to May 28, 1831. He came to the 24th Landwehr Regiment on March 1, 1843, where he was adjutant of the 2nd Battalion. Promoted to Premier-Lieutenant on May 9, 1848, he was company commander in the 2nd Battalion from November 1, 1848 to June 30, 1850. He was then from July 1, 1850 to June 30, 1851 in the 2nd Battalion of the 9th Landwehr Regiment. He was then promoted to captain on June 22, 1852 and used as company commander. As such, he was transferred to the Guard Reserve Infantry (Landwehr) regiment on February 20, 1858 with a patent on November 14, 1851. There he rose on June 11, 1858 to major and commander of the 2nd battalion. On October 18, 1861 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. On September 22nd, 1863, he was awarded the 3rd Class Crown Order and on April 18th, 1865, he was given the command of the 3rd Guards Regiment on foot, for which he was placed à la suite of the regiment. On June 16, 1865 he was confirmed as commander of the regiment and at the same time promoted to colonel.

During the German War of 1866 he fought with thrush and Königgrätz . For his achievements he received the Pour le Mérite on September 20, 1866 and the Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross on November 14, 1866 . On May 16, 1867, he was put on hold due to illness and awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 3rd class .

During the mobilization for the Franco-Prussian War he was appointed deputy commander of the 24th Infantry Brigade on July 18, 1870, but on September 20, 1870 he came to Glogau as the leader of a combined infantry brigade . For this he was given the character of Major General on February 22, 1871 before returning to the inactive relationship on March 25, 1871. He died unmarried on September 21, 1872 in Breslau.
