Julius Meimberg
Julius Meimberg (born January 11, 1917 in Münster ; † January 17, 2012 there ) was a German military pilot during World War II and an inventor and book author after the war.
youth
Julius Meimberg was born in Münster, the youngest of six children of a businessman. As a teenager he already operated gliding within the Flieger-HJ and passed the Abitur examination in his hometown of Münster. Even before the beginning of the Second World War , he joined the Air Force as an officer candidate and was trained as an aircraft pilot.
Second World War
During the Second World War he was squadron captain of the 3rd / Jagdgeschwaders 2 "Richthofen" from April 15, 1941 until his wounding on July 24, 1941. Later he flew missions in North Africa and after a parachute jump from his burning Messerschmitt Bf 109 in the Near Tunis severe and partly permanent burns from it. Towards the end of the war he flew in the defense of the Reich in Jagdgeschwader 53 and was commander of Group II. He experienced the end of the war with a total of 59 air victories as a major and bearer of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross .
post war period
In the post-war period, Meimberg designed a special process for textile production that was an improvement on the open-end or rotor spinning process . A machine model has been in the Deutsches Museum in Munich since 1993. In 2001 Julius Meimberg received the Rudolf Diesel Medal for his scientific achievement . In terms of aviation, Julius Meimberg became active again in the private sector, u. a. For a long time he was chairman of the air sports club Motorflug Münster .
