Julius Otto Grimm (* February 22 . Jul / 6. March  1827 greg. In Pärnu in the Governorate of Livonia ; † 7. December 1903 in Münster ) was a German composer and conductor , who long in Westphalia had Munster.

Live and act

After studying philology and philosophy at the University of Dorpat , from which he graduated in 1848, he began his professional career as a tutor in Saint Petersburg . At the same time he composed his first works. Another study followed in Dresden in 1851/52. In 1853 he met the twenty-year-old Johannes Brahms in Leipzig ; thus began a lifelong friendship. In 1855 he took a position as a music teacher and choir conductor in Göttingen , and in 1860 the position of conductor of the Musikverein Münster. From 1878 Grimm worked as a lecturer for music theory and singing in Münster and also headed several music associations. During his 40 years in Münster, he received numerous honors and appointments.
