Julius Perlis (born January 19, 1880 in Białystok , Russian Poland , † September 11, 1913 at Hochtor-Ostgrat , Ennstaler Alps ) was an Austrian chess master .

Julius Perlis studied law at the University of Vienna from 1898 to 1902 and was awarded a doctorate in 1903. jur. PhD . From 1905 to 1908 he worked as a trainee in a Viennese law firm. He established himself as a lawyer in Vienna . Here he often indulged his hobby chess in Café Central . He took part in a total of 13 championship tournaments, at the tournament in Barmen in 1905 he took 4th place, in 1909 in Saint Petersburg 7th place.

In 1910 he only just lost a match against Spielmann with one win, two losses and two draws.

He celebrated his greatest success in 1912 in the busy tournament in San Sebastian . Here he finished 5th and achieved two draws against the tournament winner Rubinstein and a win and a draw against second-placed Nimzowitsch . Perlis also dealt with chess composition .

In 1913 he got lost while hiking in the Ennstal Alps and froze to death .
