Julius Sandtmann
Johann Friedrich Julius Sandtmann (born May 25, 1826 in Dargun ; † April 11, 1883 in Hamburg ) was a Hamburg merchant , member of the Reichstag from 1881 to 1883 and a member of the Hamburg parliament .
Sandtmann grew up in Hamburg and attended the high school. After completing a commercial apprenticeship, he worked as a self-employed businessman and was primarily involved in tobacco imports . He was elected as a candidate for the German Progressive Party in the Reichstag election in 1881 for the Hamburg 1 constituency. Due to bad harvests and high tariffs, Sandtmann was on the verge of ruin in April 1883, and he committed suicide . August Bebel was able to win Sandtmann's free parliamentary mandate in the 1883 by-election.
Sandtmann was a member of the Hamburg parliament from 1877 to 1880 as a member of the Left Party .
