Julius Simmonds

Julius Simmonds (born June 12, 1843 in Pyrmont , Principality of Waldeck , † April 24, 1924 in Hamburg ) was a German genre , still life and portrait painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

After attending Anton Rée's foundation school in Hamburg, Simmonds attended the Grand Ducal Saxon Art School in Weimar from 1863 to 1867 , where he was taught by Arthur von Ramberg and Bernhard Plockhorst . Then he went to the Düsseldorf Art Academy . In Düsseldorf, Simmonds was a member of the artists' association Malkasten . After completing his studies, he settled in Hamburg. There he exhibited regularly, especially in the Hamburg Artists' Association of 1832 , where he was a member, and in the Kunstverein .

On October 20, 2019, an episode of NDR's Lieb & Teuer program was broadcast, which was filmed in Reinbek Castle and hosted by Janin Ullmann . It discussed an oil painting by Simmonds from 1882 with painting expert Ariane Skora, which shows an upper-class living room.
