Julius Walter (theologian)

Julius Piers Ernst Hermann Walter (* February 4 jul. / 15. February  1794 greg. In Wolmar , Governorate of Livonia ; † December 2 jul. / 14. December  1834 greg. In Tartu , Governorate of Livonia) was a Baltic German theologian and university professors.

Life

Julius Hermann Walter was born as the son of district doctor Hermann Johann Walter and his wife Marie Elisabeth, b. Walter, born.

Until 1811 he attended high school in Wolmar ( Valmiera ). He then studied Protestant theology from 1811 to 1817 at the Imperial University of Dorpat . In 1814/15 he attended the University of Göttingen and the University of Jena . He was a member of the Lützow Free Corps .

In Jena in 1814 he was still a member of the Vandalia Jena Landsmannschaft , before it dissolved with the other Landsmannschaft in Jena on June 12th, 1815 in favor of the original fraternity. and to which he belonged as one of their chiefs.

From 1817 Walter was pastor in Rodenpois ( Ropaži ), Allasch ( Allaži ) and Wangasch ( Vangaži ) in Livonia . From 1823 to 1830 he was Pastor Primarius in Wolmar.

In 1830 Walter became a full professor for practical theology at the German-speaking Imperial University of Dorpat. In 1832 he was dean of the theological faculty. His works are strongly influenced by Carl Daub and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel .

Private life

Julius Walter was married to Emilie Büsch. The couple had six daughters and one son.
