Carl Daub

Carl Daub (born March 20, 1765 in Kassel , † November 22, 1836 in Heidelberg ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Carl Daub attended high school in Kassel and studied philology, philosophy and theology in Marburg from 1786. In 1794 he became professor of philosophy at the High School in Hanau, and in 1795 professor of theology in Heidelberg. Under the influence of Hegel , Daub later became the main representative of the speculative restoration of orthodox dogma and an opponent of Friedrich Schleiermacher . In 1802 he turned down a call to Kassel as rector of the grammar school, as did a call to Würzburg a year later. In May 1805 he was appointed to the church council. In 1806 he became a member of the Freemason Lodge Carl for Good Hope in Heidelberg.
