Julius Weeren

Julius Weeren (born January 9, 1832 in Hattingen ; † December 4, 1914 in Niedersedlitz ) was a German metallurgist and university professor for metallurgy and foundries.

biography

Julius Weeren acquired in 1850 the school leaving certificate in the school of Dortmund . He then turned to chemistry and heard related lectures at the universities of Würzburg , Berlin , Göttingen and Bonn . In 1864 he had received his doctorate in Bonn and after overcoming health problems went to Belgium and northern France to study the iron industry there. After his return, Weeren participated in a foundry in Witten an der Ruhr. The production of malleable cast iron and cast steel was built up under his leadership .

In 1879 he moved to Berlin, where he took over the training of smelters at the Technical University. He held this teaching position until his retirement in 1904.
