Jun Miyake

Jun Miyake ( Japanese 三 宅 純 , Miyake Jun ; born January 7, 1958 in the Kyoto Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese jazz musician and composer who lives in Paris . In addition to the trumpet, he also plays the flugelhorn and piano . His musical style is strongly influenced by chanson and bossa nova .

Live and act

Miyake was born in Kyoto and grew up in Kamakura . From 1976 to 1980 he studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston , Massachusetts , with the support of Terumasa Hino . After graduating, Miyake returned to Japan and worked a. a. as a composer of music for commercials . He received numerous awards for these jingles; in addition, since 1983 he has regularly presented jazz albums in Japan, which, following CD criticism , made him “one of the most important representatives of the Tokyo jazz scene”. He often worked together with Arto Lindsay and Vinicius Cantuária. He also wrote the music for various film and theater productions, u. a. for Pina Bausch and Robert Wilson . In 1993 he performed with Seigen Ono's ensemble at the Montreux Jazz Festival , and in 2003 with his own band at the JazzFest Berlin . Miyake composed the music for the 2016 film Norman .

Miyake has lived in Paris since 2005.

Awards

His album Stolen from Strangers received the German Record Critics' Prize and was named "Album of the Year 2008" by Jazz thing magazine .
