June Claire Kenney (born July 6, 1933 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American actress . She gained notoriety for her roles in B-movies of the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Life

June Kenney was born in Boston in 1933 and grew up in Malden . Her father was Irish, her mother Canadian-French. As a child, Kenney was discovered by a talent agent and signed to Warner Brothers . Despite several appearances on radio shows, however, there was no career as a child actor . In 1949 Kenney's family moved to Gardena, California, and a little later to West Hollywood .

As a teenager, June Kenney took acting and dancing classes. In the evenings she worked as a temporary worker at Grauman's Chinese Theater and was discovered there by Walter Kohner, through whom she received a contract with his brother Paul Kohner . Kenney made her first television appearances in 1952. That same year, Kenney got her first film role as an extra in Has Anyone Seen My Bride? . She received her first major role in the short film City Story in 1954 .

After further television roles, June Kenney had her breakthrough in 1957 in the lead role as Barbara Bonney in the film noir Teenage Doll . This was followed by other leading roles in film noirs and exploitation films such as Riot in the Girls' Dormitory and The Last Warning Was Made of Lead . In 1958, Kenney was also seen in the horror films Attack of the Puppet People and Revenge of the Black Spider , in which she also played leading roles. Most of June Kenney's films were B-movies.

At the end of the 1950s, Kenney's role offers slowly waned. Her later film appearances include the horror thriller Bloodlust! from 1959 and an uncredited supporting role in the comedy Too Hot Bathed, produced by Jerry Lewis . She also appeared as a guest actress in television series such as Bonanza . June Kenney ended her film career in 1961, followed by her end as a television actress the following year.

After her film career, Kenney worked for the KLAC radio station in Los Angeles . She was married to Lee Sebastian from 1970 until his death in 1998, with whom she ran a horse breeding near Las Vegas . Kenney now resides in Pahrump , Nevada, and occasionally gives interviews about her film career. In 2017 she was seen in an episode of the American Broadcasting Company's 20/20 documentary series.
