The German Society for Housekeeping eV ( DGH ) is the professional association for housekeeping and at the same time sees itself as a scientific society. Furthermore, the dgh is the umbrella organization for almost two dozen domestic and vocational associations in Germany through the Federal Working Group on Housekeeping (BAG-HW), which is part of the dgh.

Objectives

Under the motto work between research and practice , the dgh deals with the way people shape their everyday lives through specialist conferences and publications. This can be done in the context of private households, but also in domestic service companies. Due to the task between research and practice, the dgh is neither a purely scientific society nor a purely professional association. Therefore, not only research results are presented in the dgh specialist journal “Hauswirtschaft und Wissenschaft”, but also reports from practice.

Technical committees in the dgh

The association is divided into six specialist committees and three advisory boards. The technical committees provide the thematic basis for the work within the dgh.

Technical Committee "Housekeeping Service Providers"

Formerly the specialist committee for large households (also: institutional households), this specialist committee deals with issues relating to domestic services such as social and health care facilities (hospitals, nursing homes, canteens) and the hospitality industry. The focus is on the management of various services such as house and living space design, catering, laundry supply, cleaning and building services.

Expert Committee "Budget and Education"

Home economics education enables people to organize their everyday life, so this technical committee tries to consider everyday skills through household-related general education, as well as to promote professional services through qualified domestic education.

Expert Committee "Household and Housing"

The living space, as the spatial concretization of the household, is considered by this committee of experts in the private environment through to communal and institutional living. Buildings, the building environment and their possible uses are the focus of the activities of the technical committee, in which the room for maneuver of the household members with regard to planning, design and use of living space is discussed.

Technical Committee "Household Technology"

Household technology plays an important role both in private households and in domestic service operations, which is why the Household Technology Technical Committee deals with the development, use and testing of appliances and processes in the household. There are three working groups within the technical committee:

Technical Committee "Structural Change in the Budget"

Along with a general social change , the structure of private households is also changing. The “Structural Change of the Household ” technical committee deals with questions of needs , goals, means, actions and the personal household composition against the background of changes in households. Next is the financial management and the financial management of interest so that results are intended as advice budgetary leading people and policy makers.
