Juozas Paknys (born September 23, 1883 in Pakniškiai near Jūžintai , Rajongemeinde Rokiškis ; † January 3, 1948 in Reutlingen ) was a Lithuanian politician and banker .

Life

In 1904 he graduated from high school in Jelgava ( Latvia ) and studied at the seminary . In 1906 he became a member of the LSDP party . From 1908 to 1912 he studied at the Commerce Institute Saint Petersburg . From 1918 to 1919 he was acting administrator of the Ministry of Food in the Sleževičius cabinet and in 1919 Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Lithuania , then Vice Minister of Finance, Trade and Industry. From 1922 to 1940 he was a board member of the Central Bank at the invitation of Vladas Jurgutis . From 1926 to 1939 he was deputy head and from 1929 de facto head of Lietuvos bankas (after Jurgutis stepped down) and from 1939 to 1940 head of the central bank.

In 1944 he emigrated to Germany. From 1945 he was a board member of the Lithuanian committee in Würzburg and then in Tübingen .
