Jupp Gesing

Jupp Gesing (actually Josef Gesing ; born July 14, 1922 in Herne ; † April 1998 ibid) was a German glass painter and glass artist.

Life

Jupp Gesing attended school from 1928 to 1936. From 1936 to 1940 he completed an apprenticeship as a commercial artist and shop window designer . During this time he attended evening courses at the Dortmund School of Applied Arts in the subjects of freehand drawing, fashion drawing and font design. He was called up for military service in 1941 and was taken prisoner of war in 1943 .

After his return in 1946 he became a founding member of the 1st Herner artist group . From 1946 to 1950 he studied the subjects of stage design, glass painting, painting and drawing at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . In 1950 he became a master student of Walter von Wecus there . In 1951 he founded his own studio in Herne and has since worked as a freelance artist in the fields of painting, glass painting, graphics, mosaics and sgraffito . In 1990 he was a founding member of the Herner Künstlerbund "90".

The workshop he founded still exists under his name and is continued by his son Christoph.

The German management consultant and author Rei Gesing is a great-nephew of Jupp Gesings.
