Yuri Alexandrowitsch Skworzow ( Russian Юрий Александрович Скворцов ; born February 20, 1929 in Moscow , USSR ; † 1998 ) was a Soviet ski jumper .

Career

Skworzow was Soviet champion in 1948, 1949, 1952 and 1953. He made his international debut with his start at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1954 in Falun . He jumped twice from the normal hill to 72 meters and thus reached 31st place.

At the Four Hills Tournament in 1955/56 he started late for the New Year's event in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . However, he did not get beyond the 41st place. In Innsbruck he surprised the competition with 11th place on the Bergiselschanze . After the final competition was moved from Bischofshofen to Hallein to the Zinkenschanze due to the weather , he was able to win this competition even more surprisingly. In the overall ranking he reached 19th place.

In the following Four Hills Tournament in 1956/57 he could not build on this success. After completing the tour, he was only 45th overall with 400 points.

In 1956 he won the gold medal at the “World Winter Games for Students”. He later worked as a trainer.
