Yuri Alexejewitsch Sujew ( Russian Юрий Алексеевич Зуев ; born December 8, 1932 in Tyumen ; died December 5, 2006 ) was a Russian - Kazakh sinologist and Turkologist .

Life

Zuev was born in the Siberian city ​​of Tyumen as the son of employees . He studied history at the Leningrad State University with a focus on the East, while also learning Old Chinese , Middle Chinese and Modern Chinese. In 1955 he received his BA and was sent to work at the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic . He received his PhD in 1967 for a thesis on "Ancient Turkish genealogical legends as a source of the early history of the Turkic people" ("Ancient Turkic genealogical legends as a source on early history of Turkic people"). In it, he published a number of new discoveries about the socio-political history of the Turkic peoples and an etymology of the name of the Ashina tribe, he traced the history of the Turkic tribes in Chinese genealogical legends, and hypothesized an ethnic trinity of the Ashina Ashide Basmyl tribes on.

Zuev worked on the fundamental editions of USSR historiography, including the "Historical Atlas of the Peoples of the USSR", the "Historical Atlas of the Kazakh SSR" and the five-volume edition of the "History of the Kazakh SSR from the earliest times to the present" . Zuev's work dealt primarily with analyzes of the political history of Kazakhstan and Central Asia from the 3rd century BC to the 3rd century CE. Z., history of the ancient and medieval epochs, ethnic compositions and migrations of the tribes of the western Turkic Kaganate , the pre- Mongolian period (10th – 12th centuries), as well as the origin, ethnic composition and political history of the Türgesh Kaganat .

After the fall of the USSR, Zuev was able to publish some works on the ancient and medieval history of the nomadic peoples of Central Asia and Kazakhstan. Among others: "Sarmato-Alans of Aral (Yancai \ Abzoya)" (1995), "Ancient Turkish social terminology in the Chinese texts of the 8th century" (1998), "Origin of the Türgesh Kaganat: History and Tradition" (1996 ), "Forms of the ethno-social organization of Central Asian nomadic peoples in antiquity and the Middle Ages: pied horde, centuria (comparative-typological study)" (1998), "Kypchak Urbe-khan in epic and history" (2001), " Manichaeism and Talas; Interpretation of ancient Turkic inscriptions ”(2002).

On his 70th birthday in 2002, his life's work, a monograph “Early Turks: Sketches on History and Ideology” was published, followed by “A Strongest Tribe” (2004) and “Seyanto-Kaganat and Kimeks (Central Asian Turkic Ethnogeography in the Middle of the 7th Century ") (2004).
