Jurij Koch (1995)

Jurij Koch (born September 15, 1936 in Horka ) is a Sorbian writer who writes his works in German and the Sorbian languages ( i.e. Upper Sorbian and Lower Sorbian ).

Life

The son of a Sorbian stone worker family went to school in Crostwitz , at the grammar school in Varnsdorf ( Czechoslovakia ) and in Bautzen . He graduated from high school in Cottbus . He then studied journalism in Leipzig from 1956 to 1960 and postgraduate theater from 1961 to 1966 . Afterwards Koch was an editor and reporter for the radio and from 1976 a freelance writer. He is a member of the PEN Center Germany .

In his works, Koch repeatedly addresses the problem areas of lignite extraction and the associated destruction of landscape and homeland.

Today Koch lives in the village of Sielow near Cottbus, Niederlausitz . He is married and has three children.
