Juro Metsk

Juro Mětšk ( May 1, 1954 in BautzenJanuary 20, 2022 in Herrnhut ) was a contemporary Sorbian composer .

Life

The son of the Sorbian writer and publicist Frido Mětšk studied at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin until 1976 and was a teacher at a music school from 1976 to 1980. From 1980 to 1983 he completed a master's degree at the GDR Academy of Arts with Reiner Bredemeyer . In 1985 he received the Hans Stieber Young Talent Award as part of the Hallische Musiktage . From 1983 to 1986 he worked as a music dramaturge at the German-Sorbian People's Theater in Bautzen and has lived there since 1986 as a freelance composer.

In 1989, his work syndrom was awarded a prize at the West German Radio 's "Forum of Young Composers" competition. In 2017 he received the Ćišinski Prize for his compositional work and his scientific contributions to Sorbian music .

Mětšk died in January 2022 after a serious illness at the age of 67 in a Moravian hospice.
