Jussi Timonen (born June 29, 1983 in Kuopio ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with KalPa Kuopio in the Liiga since July 2019 . His older brother Kimmo is also a hockey player.
Career
Jussi Timonen started his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of KalPa Kuopio , for its first team he in the 2000/01 season his debut in the third-rate Suomi-sarja was and with whom he instantly as third League champion in the Mestis that second Finnish division, promotion. After another year at KalPa in the Mestis, the defender joined the top club TPS Turku from the SM-liiga . With TPS he was runner- up in the 2003/04 season. At the same time as playing in the SM-liiga with TPS, Timonen ran for one season each for the second division TuTo Hockey and Mikkelin Jukurit in the two years he was under contract there . With Jukurit he took second place in the Mestis in 2004.
From 2004 to 2006 Timonnen was able to assert himself at SaiPa Lappeenranta in the SM-liiga and fight for a regular place. He was then signed by the Philadelphia Flyers , who had originally selected him in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as a total of 146th player. In the 2006/07 season , the Finn was in 14 games for the Flyers in the National Hockey League on the ice and gave four assists in these games. However, he spent most of the season with their farm team , the Philadelphia Phantoms , in the American Hockey League . After the following season began with the Phantoms in the AHL, the Flyers transferred the former youth international to their league rivals Dallas Stars , but he could there not prevail and ran until the end of season exclusively for their AHL farm team Iowa Stars on .
In the summer of 2008 Timonen returned to Finland and then played for his hometown club KalPa Kuopio, which had meanwhile been promoted to the SM-liiga. Between 2017 and 2019 he was under contract with the Schwenninger Wild Wings in the DEL . In July 2019 he returned to KalPa.
International
For Finland , Timonen took part in the U18 World Junior Championship in 2001 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2003 . In both tournaments he was able to win the bronze medal with his respective team.
