Just Cause 3 is a video game released on December 1, 2015, which belongs to the third-person shooter genre. It is the successor to the 2010 Just Cause 2 game and is being developed by the Swedish developer Avalanche Studios . It was published by Square Enix for the Windows , Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms .

The action takes place on the fictional Mediterranean island of Medici , which is under the rule of the dictator General Di Ravello. The player takes on the role of the agent Rico Rodriguez, already known from the two predecessors, who wants to overthrow Di Ravello's dictatorship.

Gameplay

General

Just Cause 3 , like its two predecessors, is a third-person shooter with an open world principle .

The map size has not changed significantly compared to its predecessor, but it offers more verticality, which enables the exploration of caves and displays buildings more realistically.

Grappling hook and parachute from the predecessor are included again with improved mechanics, and it is also possible to dive. A wingsuit is also available as a means of transport.

The chaos point system for particularly creative destruction under unusual simulated physical conditions is still available. Instead of the percentage from Just Cause 2 , an icon system on the edge of the screen shows what can still be destroyed. Furthermore, churches and thus priests can be unlocked by liberating individual villages. If you are followed by many enemies, the player can be freed by a priest. It is also possible to order unlocked weapons and vehicles via rebel drop.

Vehicles and weapons

The game contains all kinds of weapons as well as over 80 different vehicles. The player can carry three weapons at the same time. These are divided into primary weapons (assault rifles, machine guns and shotguns), secondary weapons (all Akimbo: pistols, submachine guns, revolvers and small shotguns) and special weapons (rocket launchers of all kinds, mortars, sniper rifles and so-called HSW weapons ).

There are vehicles of all kinds on Medici, including sports cars, helicopters and tanks, which the player can either steal or have delivered. There are also vehicles with mounted MGs, but this time you can call a rebel into the car by blowing the horn, who then drives to the marker on the map while you operate the MG yourself.

Just Cause 3 was officially announced on November 11, 2014 . However, the game should not have a multiplayer mode at the start, as Avalanche wants to concentrate on the single player mode. The development studio could, however, imagine adding a multiplayer mode to the game afterwards. Square Enix ' cloud company Shinra Technologies indicated they are working on such a multiplayer mode. However, managing director Jacob Novak did not make any specific statements. However, there are rankings in single player mode that allow comparison with other players, for example in wingsuit races.

In February 2015, Roland Lesterlin, Game Director of Avalanche Studios announced that the game can be played offline without any problems and that there will be no online requirement. However, there will be optional online community features.

The game was released worldwide on December 1st, 2015 for Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In addition, a Collectors Edition was announced on March 12, 2015, the content of which was selected through an online survey. The contents of this edition were announced on July 9, 2015; it will contain vehicles with weapons, a poster of the Medici Island, and an art book.

At gamescom 2015 , Square Enix announced that buyers of the Xbox One version will also receive the predecessor Just Cause 2 for the Xbox 360 free of charge . Those who pre-order the console versions of the Day One Edition will be able to take part in a contest, which includes various tasks in which players receive chaos points and can thus conquer the leaderboard. The contest winner can choose between a real island or $ 50,000 in prizes. The contest should last 90 days and end on February 29, 2016.

In the PC version of Just Cause 3, technical inadequacies were initially discovered that made workarounds necessary. For example, under Windows 10 - which is not officially mentioned as a supported operating system in the system requirements - folders for saved games could only be created if the game was started with administrator rights. Problems also arose with consoles: The loading process of the game took disproportionately long on the Playstation 4, which could only be solved by switching off the console and briefly disconnecting it from the power supply.

The information policy around the system requirements also caused displeasure because they were not correctly specified. Square Enix only updated the requirements a week before it was released.
