Jobst II Reuber

Jobst II Reuber (Low German Röver ; * August 16, 1542 in Warburg ; † June 16 or June 17, 1607 at Gut Odernheim ) was a lawyer and Chancellor of the Palatinate .

He studied in France and Italy and, after completing his legal doctorate in Valence, initially worked as a lawyer at the Imperial Court of Justice in Speyer . In 1574 he joined the Electoral Palatinate as a high judge. In 1579 he was appointed to the Upper Council and finally in 1587/1588 as Chancellor of the Electoral Palatinate during the time of Johann Kasimir . As a leading politician in the central administration, he contributed to the fact that this territorially divided electorate developed into one of the leading German territorial states. He subsequently acquired imperial privileges (coats of arms, nobles). Reuber also appeared as a historian and published, among other things, a collection of German historical sources Veteres Scriptores .

Reuber created many enemies during Johann Kasimir's administration of the spa, so that after the accession of Elector Friedrich III. deposed on January 4, 1592. He remained in the service of the Electorate of the Palatinate by default. He then worked from 1592 to 1595 as an advocate for the Strasbourg cathedral chapter and from 1598 to 1604 served as councilor and chief bailiff of Ettlingen in the service of Margrave Ernst von Baden-Durlach . After the margrave's death, Reuber retired to his estates in Rheinhessen .
