Justus Wertmüller

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Justus Wertmüller (born around 1963) is a political journalist and editor of the Berlin magazine Bahamas . He was considered a "well-known spokesman" of the anti-German current. Since the Bahamas Conference in 2009, Wertmüller and the Bahamas have distanced themselves from the “lost attributes” of communist, Israeli solidarity and anti-German and have introduced the term “ critical of ideology ” as a new central point of reference.

Life

In the 1980s he was a member of the Greens in Munich and later a member of the Communist Federation , where he worked as an author for the monthly newspaper Arbeiterkampf . He has also published articles in the magazines Blätter des Iz3w , Konkret and Jungle World . Justus Wertmüller is a founding member of the Bahamas magazine , for which he has written almost 100 articles. In 2017, the Berlin-based XS Verlag published several essays by Wertmüller on the past and present of Turkey in book form under the title Conspiracies against Turkishness .

Controversies over appearances

On November 12, 2010 Wertmüller gave the lecture “The Sarrazin Complex - Why its critics are wrong and its theses wrong” at an event of the AStA of the University of Bonn , which was disrupted by an anti-imperialist group in the audience. When a spectator tried to blind him with a laser pointer , an intervening student from Cologne was injured by burns to the eye. After the police were alerted, most of the troublemakers left the event.

A lecture event planned for July 3, 2012 at the University of Rostock by the university group of the German-Israeli Society (DIG) with Wertmüller as speaker was forbidden by the university administration due to feared "disturbances and tumults" as a result of anti-constitutional statements and had to go to the Heinrich conference center -Böll Foundation . In response to two small inquiries from members of the state parliament Johann-Georg Jaeger and Peter Ritter about the circumstances of the rejection, the state government stated that the university had informed the state office for the protection of the constitution "on the basis of suspected suspicions of an extremist background" , which Wertmüller as a "well-known representative of the 'Anti-German left-wing extremism' ”. The DIG criticizes the ban as a restriction of academic freedom .

Positions

During the Kosovo war in 1999, he spoke out against the NATO attacks on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which were supported by Germany, and on this occasion turned against fundamental anti-nationalism in parts of the German left. He claimed that "the" Serbs had suffered a terrible defeat in their efforts to create a friendlier Balkans and that full solidarity with the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was a must. Serbia is “just a normal, not a terrible nation”, from which “the so terribly slain attempt to overcome the ethno horror in one part of the world” will remain. That is why he criticized the left, who had not unconditionally supported Serbia, and turned against attempts to prevent Slobodan Milošević's pictures from being carried on anti-war demonstrations.

Wertmüller described the Arab anti-Semitism of the Al-Aqsa Intifada as "clerical fascism". After a new series of Palestinian suicide attacks began in December 2000, Wertmüller tightened his analysis in the autumn of 2002 in the essay “Political Theology. Islamic rule as an ideological synthesis of NS and globalization criticism ”.

Wertmüller is committed to "unconditional solidarity" with Israel . In the words of Karl Marx, he prefers the “general relationship of usefulness and usability” of capitalism “to a local context based on blood, nature and relationships of domination and servitude”, which Wertmüller states for Arab societies and as a regressive goal of an anti-Semitic and anti-American internationals feared. On the other hand, correctly understood communism must be the "abolition of the capitalist world at its highest level".

Wertmüller's positions have often been criticized by various proponents of the political left, including value critics such as Robert Kurz or in the magazine Streifzüge .
