Károly Rödönyi

Károly Rödönyi (born December 14, 1911 in Budapest ; † January 26, 1995 ibid) was a Hungarian politician of the party of the Hungarian working people MDP (Magyar Dolgozók Pártja) and finally the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party MSZMP (Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt) , which among other things between 1963 and 1970 General Director of the Hungarian State Railways MÁV ( Magyar Államvasutak ) and later from 1974 to 1976 Minister of Post and Transport.

Life

Rödönyi, the son of a postal inspector, completed a degree in mechanical engineering at the Palatine Josef University of Technology and Economics (József Nádor Műszaki és Gazdaságtudományi Egyetemen) after attending school , which he graduated in 1936. After additional qualifications in vehicle construction , he worked for the vehicle manufacturer Manfréd Weiss Stahl- und Metallwerke AG Csepel in 1938 , before he switched to the Hungarian State Railways MÁV (Magyar Államvasutak) and worked there as a railway engineer in the stations of Szeged and Budapest. In May 1942 he was director of the railway operation work of Királyháza before he was then in September 1943 he engineer in the railway depot of Dés and then 1944 in the railway depots of Székesfehérvár , Szombathely and Komárom .

In August 1946 he became a member of the Communist Party KMP (Kommunisták Magyarországi Pártja) and in November 1946 took a position as chief engineer in the operations department of the Ministry of Transport. He then acted from 1951 to 1957, first as a department head and finally as the main department head in the general management of MÁV, before he was vice general director of MÁV between August 1957 and 1963.

Then he was from December 7, 1963 to November 19, 1970 Vice Minister for Post and Transport and at the same time as successor to György Csanádi General Director of MÁV. In this role, he announced at the beginning of 1970 a complex renovation of the 300-kilometer MÁV rail network and the purchase of 24 electric and 35 diesel locomotives. His successor as general director of MÁV was Károly Mészáros on November 20, 1970 .

At the same time, he was Secretary General of the Association for Transport Sciences (Közlekedéstudományi Egyesület) for several years, as well as its President between 1963 and 1976 and then Honorary President for life.

Then Rödönyi acted between November 19, 1970 and June 21, 1974 as First Vice Minister for Post and Transport and at the same time from November 2, 1973 to June 21, 1974 as State Secretary in the Ministry of Post and Transport. During this time he was also a member of the board of the International Union of Railways and between 1971 and 1972 its president.

After a reshuffle in the government of Prime Minister Jenő Fock , he took over the post of Minister for Post and Transport (Közlekedési és Postaügyi miniszter) on June 21, 1974 and held this position in Prime Minister György Lázár's cabinet until his replacement by Árpád Pullai on October 29 1976.
