The Käte-Lassen-School is a secondary school in Flensburg . Until 2011 it was a secondary school; it has been a community school since the 2011/12 school year . The school was founded in 1951 and named after the Flensburg painter and sculptor Berta Katharina Lassen (1880–1956). In the early years she was very committed to the school. The school has around 500 students (as of 2019/2020) who are taught by around 50 teachers in 19 classes (as of 2019/2020).
location
The school is located on the east bank of the Flensburg Fjord in the Jürgensby district, surrounded by allotment gardens. This quiet location offers a good learning atmosphere.
Architecture and buildings
The school is divided into five building complexes. Most of the specialist rooms, the teachers' room and the secretariat are located in the main building, with the sports hall adjacent. There are also two smaller complexes in which there are classrooms, the music room and the biology room. One of the newer buildings is the “garden house” with three classes and two computer rooms. The newest building contains two technical rooms, the cafeteria with the school kiosk, the room for the open all-day school, the school library and the office of the student representatives and the FSJ office. Some buildings are connected by a covered walkway. There is plenty of space on the school premises to play, especially thanks to the “play island” with three trampolines, and to relax with lawns, table tennis and seating. A kiosk is available for breaks. There is also a sports field and a wet biotope on the premises.

Course offer
Ten “professionals” from the Flensburg Music School , who play in the symphony orchestra and give individual lessons, give music lessons in the afternoons at the Käte-Lassen School. The school enables entry into the music world, e.g. B. by the student orchestra. The intensive work in the fields of art, theater and technology promotes creative skills and strengthens self-confidence. The Käte-Lassen School works together with the Flensburg Theater School, among others .
The school attaches great importance to a wide range of exercise experiences with sports activities for both indoors and outdoors. The Käte-Lassen-School cooperates with the University of Flensburg .
In close cooperation with business , the students gain an insight into the world of work through internships, company visits and encounters with experts from different professional fields. In grade 8, the students visit the training centers of the Chamber of Crafts for a week and try out various professions. In grade 9, they complete a two-week internship in a company of their choice. The students are encouraged to look for internships even during the holidays. You can have these internships recorded in an ID, the internship pass.
The school gives itself a special profile through its compulsory elective subjects , which takes into account connections in the world of work, career and life planning. The students can choose from 40 courses, from languages and social issues to current topics such as “Everything about the PC” or the “Einstein Year”.
In its “Ogata” (open all-day care), the Käte-Lassen-School offers a varied afternoon program for all grades. In small groups, prospective teachers and older pupils offer workshops, for example dancing , PC writing, self-defense for girls, basketball and support in the main subjects of mathematics, German and English. In the afternoon the supervised PC room is available to the students as an internet café . For the ninth and tenth grades, lessons take place in the afternoons in the form of elective courses and sports courses.

In phases of “free work”, the students learn to deal with new media and to take responsibility independently in project work. Social skills are promoted through cross-class projects with students of different ages.
Wind class
In cooperation with the music school, the school has set up the first class with a musical focus in Flensburg. All students can learn an instrument.
Project "Transparent School"
The “Transparent School” project has been carried out at the Käte-Lassen School since March 2006. All teachers, students and parents fill out a questionnaire on their drug use habits and their perception of violence at school. The sheets are then anonymously evaluated in Kiel. The teachers and parents are given an overview of the problems at the school, and based on this overview, concepts for dealing with violence and drugs are developed.
Project HohlwegKäteGoethe
Since December 9, 2014, a cooperation contract has been signed, based on the Käte-Lassen-School, which describes the cooperation between the three schools Hohlwegschule, Käte-Lassen-Schule and Goethe-Schule . Afternoon courses can be taught by all students from the cooperating schools, provided they have completed their training to become an “action leader”.

In June 2020 the school was awarded the title “School of the Year Schleswig-Holstein 2020” at a ceremony.
