Wolfgang Börnsen (born April 26, 1942 in Flensburg ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 1987 to 2013 he was a member of the Bundestag and from 2005 to 2013 chairman of the working group on culture and media of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group.

Life and work

After graduating from secondary school , Börnsen did an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and attended the Flensburg Higher Commercial School . He then graduated from the University of Education (PH) in Kiel to become a teacher at secondary schools . He then worked as a teacher for history, economics / politics and religion at the Käte-Lassen School in Flensburg . Börnsen also had lectureships at the PH Kiel for leisure education and at the PH Flensburg for play and theater education.

In 1962 Börnsen played drums for a short time in the beat and hit band Club 62 . From 1963 he reported as a "raging village reporter" for the Flensburger Tageblatt , including from fishing on the snow disaster in northern Germany in 1978 .

Wolfgang Börnsen is a Protestant , married and the father of four children.

Political party

Börnsen joined the CDU in 1967 and in 1977 also joined the Christian Democratic Workforce (CDA). From 1991 to 1995 he was Secretary General of the CDU Schleswig-Holstein .

MP

Börnsen had been a member of the German Bundestag since 1987 . Here he was chairman of the working group on the coast of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group . Since November 2005 he has also headed the parliamentary group culture and media and was also the cultural policy spokesman for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group. In this role, he attacked the nomination of the computer game Crysis 2 for the German Computer Game Award in April 2012 ; Although the jury is defined as independent, Börnsen threatened with “a new composition of the jury” and was criticized for this from different sides, even from within its own ranks.

Wolfgang Börnsen entered the Bundestag in 1987, 1990, 1994 and 2009 as a directly elected member of constituency 1 Flensburg - Schleswig, in 1998, 2002 and 2005 via the Schleswig-Holstein state list . He announced that he would no longer run in the 2013 federal election after more than 25 years as a member of the Bundestag. His successor was Sabine Sütterlin-Waack .

Börnsen is a member of the European Union parliamentary group of the German Bundestag .

Börnsen has been parliamentary and government advisor in Romania, Bulgaria, Armenia, Georgia and Kazakhstan since 2010.

Börnsen is an advisor to the Supreme Constitutional Court in Brazil March 2017.
