Käthe Grasegger
Käthe Grasegger-Deuschl (born June 19, 1917 in Partenkirchen ; † August 28, 2001 ) was a German ski racer . In the 1930s she was the dominant driver in the world behind Christl Cranz . With a total of seven World Cup medals, she is still one of the most successful ski racers of all time.
Grasegger made her breakthrough to the top of the world in 1935 when she won bronze medals in slalom and combined at the World Ski Championships in Mürren, Switzerland . In the downhill she was also fifth.
The following year the Olympic Winter Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen became the highlight of her career. Not far from her birthplace, she won the silver medal behind Cranz in the alpine competition that was part of the Olympic program for the first time. With the second-best slalom run, she managed to relegate the Norwegian Laila Schou Nilsen , leading after the descent, to third place.
In the following two years, Grasegger consolidated its position at the top of the world. At the 1937 World Cup in Chamonix , she won medals in all three competitions. She was able to wear two more medals at the 1938 World Cup . However, she was denied a title at the international level as well as at the German championships. At the SDS races in Grindelwald , Switzerland , she achieved a total of six podium places from 1934 to 1939.
