The Königstuhl , also known as the Großer Königstuhl , is 2336 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Gurktal Alps in Austria .
It lies on the border of the federal states of Carinthia , Styria and Salzburg . The Carinthian part of the mountain is part of the Carinthian Nockberge biosphere reserve , the Salzburg part of the Salzburg Lungau biosphere reserve. Larger towns in the vicinity are Eisentratten , Innerkrems and, on the Styrian side, Turrach .
The Königstuhl is largely covered by alpine meadows . A marked path leads to the summit over the southward ridge that forms the border between Styria and Carinthia. The Königstuhl can be reached via this route from both the Carinthian and the Styrian side. Another path leads from the north-west over the border ridge between Salzburg and Carinthia to the summit. It is just as accessible from Salzburg as it is from Carinthia. In winter the Königstuhl is a popular destination for ski tours .
