The Kühberg (also: Kühbergalpe ) in the municipality of Dornbirn , in Vorarlberg ( Austria ) is a permanently inhabited alp between Karren (971 m) and Staufen (1456 m). Kühberg is also the name of the excursion restaurant located there.
Surname
The name Kühberg is said to be derived from Kienbaum for pine , which grows in larger stocks around the Alpe and the Staufen. In Vorarlberg, the name Kühberg can only be found in Dornbirn and Hittisau .
history
In an act from 1570, a residential building is mentioned on Kühberg and the Alpe is said to have been inhabited all year round. At that time the house stood above the current building by the chapel (wayside shrine). In 1686 the Dornbirn court sold the Kühberg to Michael Danner in Dornbirn. In 1692 the Swiss Alpsenn Hans Dobler from Appenzell took up residence there. In Dornbirn he was considered a pioneer of the fat dairy , which at that time meant a revolutionary innovation in the alpine and dairy industry.
In 1838 a new building is mentioned. The building that has been preserved to this day was built, whereby the current appearance was created in 1937 by adding a storey. In 1926 the Kühberg became famous after a robbery when the landlady Lena Huber (née Höfle) was stolen from a man and a woman with various valuables and groceries under threat of murder. The perpetrators were arrested the next morning at 5 a.m. on the way from Schuttannen to Götzis.
In 1956/57 the Mühlebach ski club and the Dornbirn ski club built a ski jump on the Kühberg.
Location and use, geology
The main building on Kühberg is located on the northwestern edge of the municipality of Dornbirn in the direction of Hohenems and is about 3300 m as the crow flies from the city center. The Kühberg is used for pasture farming , especially with cows , and the building houses an excursion restaurant (Gasthaus Kühberg).
The Kühberger Leue parcel is located about 800 meters from the inn in a south-easterly direction and about 500 meters below the Staufenspitze . Leue is an Alemannic name for avalanche .
The original Kühbergalpe is now heavily overgrown with trees and only part of the original alpine pasture. In a straight line between the Karren (with the Karrenseilbahn ) and the Kühberg is the parcel of Minderkühberg (small Kühberg).
Waters
The Fallbach flows through the Feientobel to the south / south-west of the Kühberg . The Küferbach rises to the northeast .
