Kevin "KJ" McDaniels Jr. (born February 9, 1993 in Birmingham, Alabama) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Oklahoma City Blue . He is 1.98 m tall and plays in the positions of small forward and shooting guard , so he is a so-called swing man . He is known for his athleticism and very good defense.

Career

college

McDaniels spent two years at Clemson University . In the 2013/14 season he was voted the best defender of the ACC and the All-ACC team. He averaged 17.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.7 blocks with a playing time of 33.7 minutes. He led the ACC in 20-10 games (i.e., games with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds each): he had six such games. After the season he signed up for the NBA draft.

NBA

In the 2014 NBA draft , McDaniels was drawn in the second round as the 32nd pick by the Philadelphia 76ers . He signed an atypical non-guaranteed 1-year contract, through which he had the prospect of a higher-endowed contract from the second year in the league.

McDaniels initially played quite successfully in the young Sixers team, for which he recorded 9.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks. In February 2015 he was traded to the Houston Rockets , a much stronger team in which he played only a minor role. In 10 games for the Rockets, he averaged 1.1 points, 0.5 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 0.2 blocks in just 3 minutes per game. Nevertheless, after the season he got a new $ 10 million 3-year contract from the Rockets. In the Rockets he could not prevail in the 2015/16 season , only completed 37 games in which he came to 2.4 points and 1.1 rebounds in 6.4 minutes of playing time. In the 2016/17 season , McDaniels was transferred from the Rockets to the Brooklyn Nets shortly before the end of the trade deadline . It was traded to Brooklyn for nothing. The Trade served, from the perspective of the Rockets, only for more cap space to get.

In 2017 he signed a contract with the Toronto Raptors , for which he did not play a single game. In December 2017 he signed a contract with the NBA G-League team Grand Rapids Drive (Development Team of the Detroit Pistons ). After a brief appearance in the NBA Summer League for the Portland Trail Blazers , he moved to the Oklahoma City Blue at the beginning of the 2018-19 season .
