KACO new energy is a manufacturer of power converters , especially inverters and monitoring accessories for photovoltaic systems as well as power supplies for industrial areas. The company, based in Neckarsulm , Baden-Württemberg, is one of the pioneers of transformerless inverter technology, which has become the standard due to its high degree of efficiency. From 1999 to approx. 2009, KACO delivered inverters with a cumulative output of 3 gigawatts and in 2009 was the second largest manufacturer in terms of inverter output sold. With effect from April 30, 2019, Siemens AG took over 100 percent of the shares.

history

The company was founded in 1999 under the name KACO Geräteechnik GmbH from the KACO Elektrotechnik company, which was located in the Heilbronn district of Sontheim and closed shortly afterwards . As early as the 1950s, the KACO company , which later became KACO Elektrotechnik in 1970, was the world's largest supplier of electromechanical choppers , the ancestors of today's inverters . In 1999, when it was founded, KACO Geräteechnik brought one of the first transformerless series inverters onto the market.

In 2003 the company moved its headquarters from Heilbronn to Neckarsulm, where three new plants were built within four years. In 2009 the name was changed to KACO new energy GmbH and the company moved into new headquarters. In 2010, the expansion of production capacities to 10 gigawatts began, the production sites were divided between Germany for the European market, the USA for the American continent and Korea for Asia. Subsidiaries in France and Italy were founded. In 2011 the new plants in Neckarsulm and London / Ontario (Canada) start production. Production also starts in San Jose / California (USA).

In 2016, the reduction of 80 jobs at the Neckarsulm site was announced.

KACO new energy was taken over by Siemens AG in 2019, since then it has operated as "KACO new energy GmbH - A Siemens Company" based in Neckarsulm.

Corporate structure

At the headquarters in Neckarsulm and in neighboring Erlenbach , KACO new energy 2011 currently (as of July 2011) had five plants: Plant 1 houses the company headquarters and the production of central inverters. Plant 2 acts as a service center. All string inverters are produced in Plant 3. Components for the rail and automotive sectors are developed and produced in Plant 4 at the Neckarsulm site.

Research and development are spread across different locations: One team in Neckarsulm and one in Kassel work on the development of all devices in the performance classes below 100 kilowatts. A team in Seongnam in South Korea is developing inverters in the power classes above.

KACO new energy currently has 12 subsidiaries in the USA, South Korea, China, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, South Africa, France and Italy. KACO is also represented by branches in Great Britain, Canada, India and Jordan.
