The Košarkaški Klub Lovćen ( Serbian - Cyrillic кошаркарски клуб Ловћен ; Basketball Club Lovćen ) is a Montenegrin basketball club from Cetinje . The men's team is one of the leading in the country and has played in the top national league since the independence of Montenegro, in which it was twice runner-up and once reached the national cup final. After the team had already participated in continental club competitions in the 1990s, they were most recently represented in the ABA League 2003/04 and the Balkan League in supranational competitions, with the latter also reaching the 2010 final.

history

In 1947, a basketball team was founded within the Lovćen Cetinje sports club, which then joined regular play with the third regional championship of Montenegro held in Cetinje in 1949. In the following years one belonged within the SR Montenegro to the significant teams without, however, also regularly qualify for higher competition. After establishing a joint top division for Montenegro from 1970 onwards, they were a permanent participant in this division, before advancing to the second highest national division of Yugoslavia below the YUBA league in 1983 . You belonged to the second division for about ten years until 1992.

When the independence of Slovenia , Croatia , Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina began to dissolve Yugoslavia as such, KK Lovćen was also "washed" into the highest national league YUBA of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia . After the first play-off -participation for the championship in 1997 and reaching the sixth place in 1998 took over the team also in the European club competition Korać Cup 1998/99 , however, in part, in which one of six group matches only the home game against Hapoel Galil Elyon could win . 2001 they lost fourth in the semi-final series of the national championship against defending champion KK Budućnost from the Montenegrin capital Podgorica . Then they belonged to the play-off teams of the best eight teams from Serbia and Montenegro and were finally also a participant in the supranational ABA league 2003/04 , in which the team, after only five wins in 26 games, only came 14th. and last place in the table. For the following season you finally got down from the YUBA league.

Due to the independence of Montenegro, which has now also taken place, the relegation did not last long after the KK Lovćen slipped back into the first class a year later with upgrading the Prva Liga of Montenegro to the national league. Behind KK Budućnost they were runner-up at the premiere of the national championship of Montenegro in 2007. Three years later, the team moved back into the final series of the championship, but could not win a game against the dominant series champion Budućnost again. In that season, the team again took part in a supranational competition in the Balkan League and defeated national rivals KK Mornar Bar as group winners in the quarter-finals . At the Final Four tournament they moved into the final, but where they were defeated by the host Levski Sofia . After the team lost the final in the 2011 national cup competition to defending champion Budućnost a year later and had given another title chance, the club only took part in the Balkan League competition again six years after the first participation in the 2015/16 season however, after only one win in eight games, finished last in the preliminary group and did not qualify for the next round via a qualifying tournament.
