Cabinet Verwoerd I

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Verwoerd I cabinet was formed in South Africa on October 8, 1961 by Prime Minister Hendrik Frensch Verwoerd of the Nasionale Party (NP) and was the first cabinet after the conversion to a republic on May 31, 1961. Verwoerd had been Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa since September 2, 1958, as the successor to Johannes Gerhardus Strijdom, who died on August 24, 1958 . The cabinet thus replaced the Strijdom cabinet and remained in office until March 30, 1966, after which it was replaced by the Verwoerd II cabinet .
