Kai Arne Engelstad (born December 21, 1954 in Oslo ) is a former Norwegian speed skater .

Engelstad was considered one of the world class sprinters of that time between 1975 and 1984. In his first World Cup season in 1976, he was able to qualify for the Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , but did not take part due to a cold. At the Sprint World Championships in the same year, he finished 5th, but achieved a podium finish over two individual distances (500 m, 1000 m). The following year he finished 8th after finishing 2nd in the second run over 500 meters. In 1979 and 1980 he reached the places 7 and 5. Also in 1980 Engelstad entered the Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid . In the 500 meter race, he finished 16th. His most successful year was 1984. He won the bronze medal over 1000 meters at the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and reached positions 18 and 12 over 500 meters and 1500 meters. In the same year he was also third in the sprint world championship , after he also over both runs 1000 meters finished in third place.
