Kajo Breuer

Kajo Breuer (born July 19, 1948 in Rheydt ) is a German politician ( Greens ).

Breuer studied economics, sociology and political science and graduated from the University of Cologne with a degree in economics in the social sciences . He worked in waste management and was most recently head of the “basic planning” department at the Saar disposal association.

Already during his student days he became politically active in various grassroots groups. In 1983 he became a member of the Greens.

From 1984 to 2001 Breuer was a member of the Saarbrücken City Council . From January 2002 to December 2009 he was the mayor of Saarbrücken . After Mayor Hajo Hoffmann was suspended in August 2002 because of allegations of infidelity, he temporarily took over his office for two years until a successor was elected in September 2004 with Charlotte Britz .

From January 2010 to July 2013 Breuer was head of the Department for Environment, Law and Social Affairs of the City of Saarbrücken.

Breuer has been an honorary member of the Heinrich Böll Foundation since the mid-1980s, and has been chairman of the Saarland State Foundation of the Heinrich Böll Foundation for over 15 years.
