Charlotte Britz
Charlotte Britz (* 27. February 1958 in Ottweiler ) is a German SPD - politician . From October 1, 2004 to September 30, 2019, she was Lord Mayor of the Saarland capital of Saarbrücken , making her the first woman at the head of the city's administration. She is deputy state chairwoman of the Saarland SPD and deputy chairwoman of the Social Democratic Association for Local Politics in Saarland eV From June 2015, Charlotte Britz was deputy president of the German Association of Cities .

Charlotte Britz attended the technical college for social education in Bad Kreuznach from 1975 to 1978 and graduated as a state-recognized educator . In 1979 she passed her high school diploma at the technical college for social work in Neunkirchen and then studied social work in Koblenz and Frankfurt am Main until 1983 . Britz completed her studies as a social worker .
In 1984 Britz worked in the Saarbrücken women's shelter , and from 1984 to 1988 she worked for the therapeutic student aid in Saarbrücken. From 1988 to 1991 she worked as a probation officer at the regional court in the social services of the judiciary . From 1991 to 1996 she worked in the women's department of the Ministry of Women, Labor, Health and Social Affairs. In 1996 she was elected head of social affairs for the state capital Saarbrücken. She held this office until 2004.
In the 2004 mayoral election, she prevailed against Josef Hecken ( CDU ) in the second ballot after she had been behind him in the first ballot. On October 23, 2011, Britz was confirmed in office with an absolute majority of the votes cast in the first ballot. Your third term ends on September 30, 2019.
In the 2019 mayoral election, she was only barely defeated by her challenger Uwe Conradt from the CDU in the runoff election on June 9, 2019 .

Political career
Charlotte Britz joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 1974 at the age of 16. From 1983 to 1985 she was Deputy Juso State Chair. From 1988 to 2000 she was a member of the state executive committee of the Saarland SPD . From 1989 to 1996 Britz was city councilor in the state capital Saarbrücken, from 1992 to 1996 she held the office of deputy chairwoman of the SPD city council group. Between 1999 and 2006 she was the deputy chairwoman of the SPD Saarbrücken, and in 2007 she was elected deputy state chairwoman of the SPD Saarland.

In 2007 Britz received the Media Prize Golden Duck from the Saar State Press Conference .
