Kalanchoe eriophylla is a species of the genus Kalanchoe in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae).

description

Vegetative characteristics

The perennial Kalanchoe eriophylla grows dwarfish, with strongly branching shoots from the base and forms dense mats. It is very densely covered everywhere with whitish or somewhat pink felt made of long, star-shaped hair . The simple, slightly woody, 2 to 5 centimeters long shoots are slender and crawl with an erect end. The sitting, very thick and very fleshy leaves are fused at the base. The leaf blade is 1.5 to 3.5 inches long and 1.2 to 1.5 inches wide, long ovate, obovate to almost cylindrical, with entire margins and blunt at the tip.

Inflorescences and flowers

The inflorescences form 2- to 7-flowered cymes . The inflorescence stalk is up to 20 centimeters high. The flowers are erect or splayed. The 1.5 to 2 millimeter long, tubular, densely hairy calyx has triangular, pointed tips. The bell-shaped, hairy corolla is pink, violet to blue-violet and forms a 4 to 6.5 millimeter long tube. The tips are obovate, blunt and 5 to 10 millimeters long and 4 to 8 millimeters wide. The stamens are attached below the center of the corolla tube and protrude slightly beyond the tube. The approximately 0.3 millimeter large anthers are kidney-shaped. The carpel is 3 to 4 millimeters long. The stylus has a length of 1 to 1.5 millimeters.

Fruits and seeds

The fruits are upright follicles that contain numerous, obovate seeds .

Systematics, number of chromosomes and distribution

Kalanchoe eriophylla is widespread on rocks in central Madagascar . The first description was in 1857 by Carl Theodor Hilsenberg and Wenceslas Bojer .

The chromosome number is .

A synonym is Cotyledon pannosa Baker .

The species cannot be clearly assigned to one of the two sections of the genus Kalanchoe . The upright flowers and the calyx indicate the section Kalanchoe , the deep attachment of the stamens, however, indicates the section Bryophyllum .
