Louis René Étienne also Edmond Tulasne (born September 12, 1815 in Azay-le-Rideau , France , † December 22, 1885 in Hyères ) was a French botanist and mycologist . Its official botanical author's abbreviation is “ Tul. "

Live and act

Tulasne first studied law and then became a lawyer. In addition to his job, he dealt with botanical studies. In 1842 he became an assistant ( aide-naturalist ) at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris , where he dealt with flowering plants and with cryptogams. In 1854 Tulasne became a member of the Académie des Sciences in Paris. From 1854 he was a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in 1857 he became a member of the Leopoldina . In 1869 he was accepted as a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences .

His first work related to the systematics of the phanerogams ( legumes , Podostemaceen , Monimiaceae ). Then he published works on the history of the development of mushrooms with his brother Charles Tulasne. In doing so, Tulasne made a significant contribution to the knowledge of the smaller parasitic fungi, especially rust and smut fungi and their development cycles . Other taxa that were processed by Tulasne were ergot and other sac fungi , then called pyrenomycetes (forms with perithecium ) and diskomycetes (with apothecium ).

Among others, the following mushroom taxa have been described by Tulasne:

His brother Charles Tulasne (1816–1884) mainly contributed the illustrations for the books.

Honors

According to Edmond Tulasne and Charles Tulasne, the mushroom genera Tulasneinia Zobel ex Corda , Tulasnella J.Schröt. and Tulasnodea Fr. named. Edmond Tulasne alone is honored by the plant genera Tulasnea Naudin from the family of the black mouth plants (Melastomataceae) and Tulasneantha P.Royen from the family of the Podostemaceae .
