description

Vegetative characteristics

Kalanchoe leblanciae is a perennial or biennial , completely bare plant that reaches heights of 30 to 160 centimeters. The simple, upright, more or less clearly square shoots are slightly whitish with frosting and woody at their base. The sessile, flat leaves are fleshy. The oblong to oblong spatulate leaf blade is up to 10 centimeters long and 1 to 3 centimeters wide. Their tip is rounded or blunt, the base is narrowed and does not encompass the stem. The leaf margin is notched, wavy to toothed-lobed.

Generative characteristics

The dense, reddish-brown inflorescence consists of many-flowered, evenly shaped cymes or panicles and reaches a length of 3 to 15 centimeters. The upright flowers are on 3 to 4.5 millimeters long, slender flower stalks . Their four-edged calyx tube , contracted towards the base, is 0.6 to 0.9 millimeters long. The elongated, lanceolate to triangular, pointed calyx lobes are 1 to 2 millimeters long and 1 millimeter wide. The petals are yellow-green, yellow or salmon-colored to bright red. The four-edged corolla tube contracted towards the base and 7 to 8 millimeters long. Their somewhat elongated to egg-shaped, rounded or blunt corolla lobes have a length of 2 to 3 millimeters and are 1.7 to 2 millimeters wide. The stamens are attached above the center of the corolla tube and do not protrude from the flower. The elongated anthers are 0.5 to 0.8 millimeters long. The linear-lanceolate, pointed nectar flakes have a length of about 1.5 millimeters and are 0.4 millimeters wide. The ovate-elongated, narrowed carpel has a length of 5.5 to 6 millimeters. The stylus is 0.7 to 1.2 millimeters long.

Systematics and distribution

Kalanchoe leblanciae is distributed in Mozambique and South Africa in open forests and shrubby savannas near the coast at heights of up to 200 meters.

The first description by Raymond-Hamet was published in 1912.
