Mount Kaldbakur (Arnarfjörður) is located in the north-west of Iceland .
geography
Kaldbakur is located between the fjords of Arnarfjörður and Dýrafjörður . With a height of 998 m , it is the highest mountain in the Vestfirðir region (Westfjords). Kaldbakur is located roughly in the middle of the region in the mountain range between Dýrafjörður and Arnarfjörður . It towers over the local Haukadalur.
Tjaldanes volcano
The mountains south of it are also very steep and rugged from the glaciers of the Ice Age . They belong to an ancient volcanic system. There is an old central volcano, the Tjaldanesvulkan , at Arnarfjörður near Hrafnseyri . The area is therefore sometimes called the “ Western Alps ”.
Rockclimbing
You can climb Mount Kaldbakur from Fossdalur on Arnarfjörður. From the summit you can see most of the highlands of the Westfjords, also to the south to Snæfellsnes and further. There is also the option of entering yourself in a summit book.
