Kalevi "Kale" Valdemar Lehtovirta (born February 20, 1928 in Turku ; † January 10, 2016 ibid) was a Finnish football , ice hockey and bandy player . In 1951 he was named Footballer of the Year in Finland .
Career
Lehtovirta played for Turun Pyrkivä , Turun Weikot , Turku PS and Turun Toverit in Finland. After making his debut in the Finnish national team in 1947 , he participated with the team in the 1952 Olympic Games . There she was eliminated after a 3: 4 defeat against Austria .
He had attracted international attention and switched to the French Division 1 . Kalevi Lehtovirta was one of the first Finnish professional footballers , along with Aulis Rytkönen and Nils Rikberg (both FC Toulouse ). He played for Red Star Paris between 1953 and 1957 when he returned to Finland. In 1958 he was playing for TPS Turku together with Kai Pahlmann (HPS Helsinki) top scorer of the Mestaruussarja . In 1959 he ended his national team career, in which he had scored twelve goals in 44 games.
In addition to soccer, Lehtovirta also played ice hockey and bandy before he became a professional soccer player when he moved to France in 1953. In football he was 1953 with Pyrkivä football champion of the workers' sports association TUL . In 1947 and 1948 he had won the ice hockey championship and in 1951 and 1952 the championship in bandy.
