Taavi Aulis Rytkönen (born January 5, 1929 in Karttula , † April 16, 2014 in Espoo ) was a Finnish football player and coach . Rytkönen became the first Finnish professional footballer in 1952 when he signed a contract with French second division club Toulouse FC .
career

Aulis Rytkönen played from 1941 as a youth for the TUL club Kuopion Työvänen Urheilijat . In 1945, at the age of 16, he made his debut among the active players for the second division team Kuopion Palloseura . Until 1952 he played with this club and from 1949 in the highest league, the Mestaruussarja . He was part of the Olympic selection of 1952 at the Summer Olympics in Helsinki , in which the hosts lost just 3: 4 in the only game in the round of 16 against Austria. Rytkönen had scored the interim 3-2 for Finland in this game. This made people aware of him abroad and in 1952 he came to France for Division 2 club Toulouse FC . He signed a contract and became the first Finnish professional footballer in history. In his first season for Toulouse, Rytkönen made 14 games and scored nine goals. Toulouse was promoted and Rytkönen played from then on in the French first division. In the 1954/55 season Toulouse was runner-up and in 1957 he managed to win the French Cup with this team. By 1960, "Monsieur magic", as he was now called, had made 120 league appearances for Toulouse. He returned to Finland at the age of 31 and signed with the capital club HJK Helsinki as a player- coach . Here he stayed until his preliminary retirement in 1966. In 1969, at the age of 40, he played another game for HJK and scored a goal.
Rytkönen played 37 international matches for the Finnish national team between 1948 and 1964 and scored seven goals for them.
As a trainer he had already taken over HJK Helsinki in 1960. He remained the club's coach until 1971. From 1973 to 1975 Rytkönen was the coach of the women's team at HJK. In 1975 he was coach of both the HJK men's team and the Finnish national team. In 1981 and 1982 he coached Tikkurilan Palloseura before coaching the women's football team of HJK Helsinki from 1984 to 1988 and 1991 and from 1995 to 1996 several times.
Rytkönen died at the age of 85 in Jorvin sairaala hospital in Espoo.
