Kalifornsky is a census-designated place in the Kenai Peninsula Borough of Alaska with 5846 inhabitants (as of 2000 ) . The settlement is on Kalifornsky Beach Road on the Kenai Peninsula on Cook Inlet , west of Soldotna and south of Kenai .
history
Kalifornsky was first mentioned by the US Coast and Geodetic Survey in 1916 . There are two different theories about the origin of the place name. Either it was derived from "Kali", the Dena'ina Athabasque term for fishermen , or it comes from a Dena'ina Indian who worked in Fort Ross , California from 1812 to the 1820s .
Peter Kalifornsky, who was born in the village in 1911, was the last speaker of the Lower Cook Inlet dialect of the Dena'ina.

Infrastructure
The Sterling Highway connects Kalifornsky with Anchorage . The nearest airfield is in Kenai, a hospital is available with the Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. There is a school in the village with around 400 students.
