Potassium hydrogen sulfide is an inorganic chemical compound of potassium from the group of hydrogen sulfides .

Extraction and presentation

Potassium hydrogen sulfide can be obtained by reacting potassium amide with hydrogen sulfide in ammonia as a solvent .

It can also be obtained by saturating a potassium hydroxide solution with hydrogen sulfide .

properties

Potassium hydrogen sulfide is a colorless, highly hygroscopic, deliquescent solid that is easily soluble in water. It quickly turns yellow in air with the formation of polysulphides and hydrogen sulphide . It normally occurs as a hemihydrate , which releases its crystal water at 175–200 ° C. When it melts, it forms a dark red liquid.

use

Potassium hydrogen sulfide is used in organic chemistry to make thiols .
