The Calvary Church of Our Lady of Sorrows is in the town of Pinkafeld in Burgenland on a hill southwest of the village.

history

The Way of the Cross to the Calvary Church dates from around 1748. The church is the oldest existing church in Pinkafeld and was built around 1748 under Count Ádám II of Batthyány. The church was restored in 1938, the Way of the Cross 1974/1975.

architecture

The simple, baroque church building has a semicircular apse and a facade tower with an onion helmet in the main and entrance facade in the east. On the south side of the church there is a single-storey residential building as a hermitage .

The short nave with a barrel vault has a three-axis gallery in the west with a two-storey, groin-vaulted gallery . The bulging gallery parapet shows an inscription cartridge . The broad choir has a bowl vault and on the left side a barred oratorio window.

Furnishing

On the altar with a concave curved back wall and columns stand three stone figures of the holy. Maria Magdalena and Johannes Evangelist inscribed with M (attthias) Steinl and a Pietà in the middle . There are two wooden figures of hll. Paul of Tarsus and Antonius Eremita from the 2nd half of the 18th century.

Way of the Cross

The Way of the Cross has 12 stations as simple chapels with recent mosaics. In front of the church are three crosses with painted, baroque tin figures of Christ and the two thieves.
