The Marine Corps Base Hawaii ( MCBH ), former Marine Corps Air Station, Kaneohe Bay and previously Naval Air Station Kaneohe Bay , is a military base of the US Marine Corps and a military airfield between Kāne'ohe and Kailua on the peninsula Mokapu Peninsula on O'ahu in the district of Honolulu County in the US state of Hawaii . The site had 11,827 residents in 2000.
The facility consists of Camp Smith, Kaneohe Bay, Marine Corps Training Area Bellows, Manana Family Housing Area , Pearl City Warehouse Annex, and the Puuoloa Range Complex.
An airport building of the former Kaneohe Naval Air Station and the fleet of Catalina seaplanes were destroyed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The affected area was protected as a National Historic Landmark on May 28, 1987 and at the same time entered as a Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places .
