The edged barberry ( Berberis angulosa ) is a plant from the family of Barberry (Berberidaceae).
description
The angular barberry is a small, deciduous shrub that reaches heights of up to 1 meter. It gets its German name from the angular, furrowed branches. Young twigs are hairy. The fresh green leaves are narrow, elongated, up to 4 cm long, with entire margins and one to three teeth on each side. The thorns are one to five parts and up to 1.5 cm long. The orange-yellow flowers are nodding and stand individually on up to 2.5 cm long reddish stems.
The angular barberry blooms in May, red, edible berries appear in autumn . The angular barberry is not winter hardy .
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28.
Occurrence
It comes from the Himalayas at altitudes between 3500 and 4500 m above sea level. It has areas in Nepal , Bhutan , Sikkim , northeast India and the Chinese provinces of Qinghai and Xizang .
use
This species is used as an ornamental shrub in gardens and parks.
