The canton of Cotoca is a municipality in the Santa Cruz department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The canton ( Bolivian : Cantón) Cotoca is one of two cantons in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Cotoca in the province of Andrés Ibáñez .

The canton borders on the municipality of Santa Cruz in the north, west and south , on the province of Chiquitos in the east, and on the canton of Puerto Pailas in the northeast . The central place is Cotoca in the western part of the canton with 19,482 inhabitants ( 2012 census ).

The canton stretches between about 17 ° 40 'and 17 ° 51' south latitude and 62 ° 45 'and 63 ° 04' west longitude, it measures twenty kilometers from north to south and up to 35 kilometers from west to east.

The canton of Cotoca is located east of the Cordillera Oriental in the Bolivian lowlands on the west bank of the Río Grande (Guapay) . The region's climate is tropical and humid almost all year round, with a short dry season from July to August with monthly values ​​of only 30–40 mm and maximum values ​​of 130–160 mm from December to February.
