The canton of Cotoca is a municipality in the Santa Cruz department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The canton ( Bolivian : Cantón) Puerto Pailas is one of two cantons in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Cotoca in the province of Andrés Ibáñez .

The canton borders in the north on the Municipio Santa Cruz , in the southwest, south and southeast on the canton Cotoca , and in the east on the province of Chiquitos . The central place is Puerto Pailas in the northeastern part of the canton with 2,301 inhabitants ( 2001 ).

The canton extends between about 17 ° 40 'and 17 ° 41' south latitude and 62 ° 47 'and 62 ° 50' west longitude, it measures up to two kilometers from north to south, and up to six kilometers from west to east .

The canton of Puerto Pailas is east of the Cordillera Oriental in the Bolivian lowlands on the west bank of the Río Grande (Guapay) . The region's climate is tropical and humid almost all year round, with a short dry season from July to September.

The annual average temperature is 24 to 25 ° C, with monthly average temperatures between almost 27 ° C in December and January and below 21 ° C in June and July (see climate diagram Pailón). The annual precipitation is around 950 mm, the dry season from July to September contrasts with a pronounced humidity period from November to February, in which the monthly values ​​reach up to 140 mm.
