The canton of Pueblo Viejo is a municipality in the Department of Potosí in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The Cantón Pueblo Viejo is one of five cantons in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Mojinete in the province of Sur Lípez . It borders in the northeast and northwest on the municipality of San Pablo de Lípez , in the southwest on the canton Bonete Palca , and in the southeast on the canton La Cienega .
The canton extends between about 21 ° 40 'and 21 ° 47' south latitude and 66 ° 20 'and 66 ° 27' west longitude, it measures up to seven kilometers from north to south and up to ten kilometers from west to east. There is only one municipality in the canton, the central town of Pueblo Viejo in the north-eastern part of the canton with 64 inhabitants. The canton lies at an average altitude of 4,300 m .

The canton is located in the Cordillera de Lípez on the southern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano , the region's climate is semi-arid and has a typical time-of-day climate, in which the mean temperature fluctuation during the day is more pronounced than during the course of the seasons.
The annual average temperature in the valleys of the region is just under 8 ° C (see Mojinete climate diagram), the monthly values fluctuate only slightly between just under 3 ° C in June / July and 11 ° C from December to February.
